Wartime Colourised Photo Portrait of a Small Boy by S. Burton of Grimsby

Author: S. Burton, Grimsby
Date: An October 2018 scan of an original WWII era colourised studio photograph taken in 1941

A superb example of the art of colourisation. The photo is very large at 15 inches x 12 inches. Sid Burton was a much respected photographer of the time. It is presumed that he colourised the portrait himself as he is believed to have possessed the skills to do it. This must have been a rather expensive commission in wartime England. It's a great shame that the name of the little boy isn't known. Update: see below.

The studios of S. Burton were, at least in the later part of his career, on the corner of Wellowgate and Abbey Road in Grimsby.

With the help of my good friend and genealogist, Wendy Parkinson, it's now likely that we have identified the little boy but it wouldn't be appropriate to name him here.
