Title: WWII 1943 Grimsby War Damage Contribution Receipt
Author: The Inspector of Taxes
Date: From an August 2017 scan of an original receipt dated 28th August 1943

According to the War Damages Act, 1941, owners of houses and business properties had to pay contributions towards the cost of compensation for war damage to land and buildings throughout the UK.

This interesting 1943 receipt shows an instalment paid by the resident of the house and corner shop at 57 Yarborough Road, Grimsby. In 2017, this is the address of Jane Elizabeth Unisex Hairdressers.

The name of the tax collector, J. Ludor, appears to be a unique name i.e. possibly Jenkyn Ludor, born Bridgend in 1904.
