Title: The Removal of a Bog Oak at Branston Booths
Author: Dixon of Lincoln
Date: March 2017 scan of the original c1920s? photo

What a superbly arranged group photo this is! After the hard work of lifting the oak, the families pose to celebrate their success.

This 'bog oak' will have fallen hundreds if not thousands of years ago and has been preserved from decay by acidic and anaerobic peat bog conditions. Essentially, it has undergone the first stages of fossilisation. Today, the best pieces of this preserved wood are quite valuable.
