Military Naval Officer with DSC Medal; A Portrait by Sherlock of Grimsby

Author: William E. Sherlock, Grimsby
Date: A May 2019 image taken directly from an original WWI-era photographic portrait

An excellent portrait by a brilliant Grimsby photographer of the time.

The Distinguished Service Cross is a third level decoration awarded to officers. It is awarded for gallantry during active operations against the enemy at sea. 1,983 of the crosses (without a bar) were awarded during WWI. It's unfortunate that the officer in this photo is unknown.
