Guy & Smith were trading at 19 Victoria Street, Grimsby from 1871. The department store was rebuilt and then it expanded by taking over adjacent shops. Guy & Smith Ltd was an independent company until 1969 when House of Fraser bought the store. They changed the name to Binns (Grimsby) Ltd in 1970 and rebuilt the store (retaining the original frontage). The store is now House of Fraser Grimsby.

Many people in the Grimsby area fondly remember the Guy & Smith's name and the large department store as it was back then. I remember the wonderful cafe with waitresses dressed in black and white. The loveliest of all the waitresses was called Gwen.

This remarkable survivor from less than 10 weeks prior to WWII is the size of a shirt box. The label shows the name, Mrs Crampin of 385 Grimsby Road and 'Per Carr A 24/6/1939'.
