Author: Unknown
Date: A January 2018 scan of an original March 1944 photograph

Flying Officer G. E. "Tiger" Camplin was one of the most experienced ferry pilots in the Mediterranean Group of Transport Command. A significant proportion of his flying hours were spent on Spitfires. He successfully flew the first Spitfire from Cairo to the Cape. It went in response to a request from the South African Government for exhibition in the Union.

Gordon Ernest Camplin was born in Grimsby in the March quarter of 1921. He lived in Cleethorpes before the war.

I will add more details about G. E. "Tiger" Camplin if new information becomes available.
