Comments:

Wilfred Pickles OBE (1904-1978) was an actor and famous radio presenter. He presented the long-running programme Have a Go on BBC Radio from 1946 until 1967 along with his wife, Mabel. This was Britain's very first broadcast quiz to give away money prizes. The chat show / quiz show travelled all around the country inviting ordinary people to come up onto the stage.

"What's on the table, Mabel?"

"Give 'im the money, Mabel!" (or "....Barney!", when producer Barney Colehan handed out the cash.)

Violet Carson, later made famous by Coronation Street, was for six years the piano player for Have a Go.

I believe that Mabel Pickles is the lady standing behind Wilfred. Can anyone identify anybody else in the photo?
