An interesting photo and some wonderful 'Grimsby' faces.

The steam trawler 'Balmedie' was built in 1906 by Hall, Russell & Co. (Aberdeen shipbuilders). In August 1914, 'Balmedie' was requisitioned for the war effort and converted to a minesweeper. She was sunk in the Dardanelles (Turkey) in April 1915 (Battle of Gallipoli?).

A zoologist friend has shown the image to friends and colleagues and the general agreement is that the mystery item is the skull of a Minke whale.

A label on the skull reads 'J. Norton'. I have no idea who he may have been.
