Decorated to celebrate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in June 1897. (The photo is incredibly sharp for the time!)

The Stonebow was built as a town gateway, Guildhall and shops in late C15 and early C16 and has been restored in subsequent centuries.

The word Stonebow comes from the Old Norse word stennibogi meaning stone arch.
