Lincoln was struck by a devastating typhoid epidemic which began in December 1904 and lasted well into 1905. Ultimately over 1,000 cases were notified, of which 131 cases proved fatal.

The photo was posted on 3rd April 1905 by Harry Bristow of 242 W. Parade, Lincoln to Miss L Carter of Ingham, near Lincoln. He says, "Dear Friend, I am sending you this to let you know what a time we are having."
