On the reverse of the photo it says, "Photo taken Dowsing Crescent, Mill Road, Cleethorpes. After the light ship. Postman Harry Major. Address: Yarra Road."

I don't know what the 'light ship' refers to but the house still exists today. It's 96, Mill Road, Cleethorpes.

My good friend and geneologist, Wendy Parkinson, has kindly provided the following details regarding Harry MAJOR:

Harry A. D. MAJOR was born on 24th August 1898.

Post Office records show that Harry A. D. MAJOR was a postman in Grimsby on 5th August 1930 and a postman in Cleethorpes on 24th May 1939. He lived at 32, Mill Road, Cleethorpes in 1935 and 19, Yarra Road in 1939. The former Cleethorpes post office is in Yarra Road. This information, I think, dates the photo to sometime in the late 1930s.

In the last quarter of 1920, Harry married Agnes FRETWELL in Grimsby. Agnes was born on 19th August 1899.

Harry and Agnes had one child, Henry Ernest MAJOR who was born on 22nd September 1921. He was a Post Office messenger in 1939.

Harry A. D. MAJOR died in the June quarter of 1958, aged 59. Agnes MAJOR died in the December quarter of 1982.

Note: A Harry Albert D. MAJOR was born in Romford, Essex, in the September quarter of 1898.
