Comments:

A rare programme. This programme is for the week beginning Monday February 11th 1946. The Palace Theatre was, at the time, an F.J.B. Theatre. Direction: F. J. Butterworth. General Manager: George Gray.

The following week, Leslie Hutchinson (Hutch) was due to appear.

The Eric S. Green, Freelance Press Photographer and Cinemamobile Projectionist, advertisement is interesting. Some of his work is shown on this website.

The other local business advertisements are interesting too. The back page is an advertisement for 'Kiwi' boot polish. The design on the tin of polish looks just as it does today.

The theatre opened on Victoria Street, on the corner of Corporation Road, in 1904. In 1931, the Palace became a cinema. In 1943, the cinema closed and the Palace reopened as a variety theatre after the town's Tivoli Theatre was bombed. The building was demolished in 1979. The original Palace Buffet on the corner has survived. It is now a Carphone Warehouse store and a Domino's Pizza.
